Hôtel Opéra Liège Paris, France

In the past 2 years, I've decided to explore more boutique hotels worldwide. The intimate feeling and eclectic and beautifully designed aesthetics are among the amenities I seek during my short-term escape. Paris, France is one of my most frequented global destinations. After numerous stays in Paris over the years, I’ve found a gem in one of my favorite cities. Hôtel Opéra Liège.

As my driver turned left onto Rue de Liège, we slowly drove down the car-lined street and arrived in front of the hotel. Once we exited the car, I noticed the small Hôtel Opéra Liège sign next to the entrance door. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was open to a new discovery. As I walked through the shrubbery-adorned foyer into the hotel lobby, I was warmly greeted by the staff. The earth tones and textural complexity of terra cotta colored leather, wood, iron light fixtures, and ceiling-to-floor glass framed garden transported me to a new Paris I’d never experienced before.

I’ve stayed at this hotel in August 2022 and May 2023. Mint water and a large, old-fashioned candy jar of gummies provided a warm and inviting touch before check-in. Afterwards, I was offered a brief tour of the lobby including the dining room for breakfast and the self-service bar. During my August stay, I booked the classic room at roughly 183 square feet. Complete with a queen bed, wardrobe, mini refrigerator, and floor-to-ceiling black-out curtains, this room provided the serenity and comfort needed to rest after a long flight. The bathroom had a spacious shower and window for extra ventilation. Admittedly I’m not a light sleeper, but the low noise level was much appreciated.

In May 2023, I booked the executive room at roughly 248 square feet to heighten a previously pleasant experience. I knew I would stay in Paris longer and wanted more space for my luggage and shopping bags. The extra square footage made a significant difference. The pair of floor-to-ceiling doors, overlooking the foyer, provided a literal breath of fresh air. I highly recommend the executive room or duplex suite if traveling with others or wanting to enjoy additional space. It’s hard for me to stay in any hotel room for an extended time period, but I can envision a day here to simply read a book or journal.

I always stress the importance of knowing your travel style, as I believe each person’s style can vary with location. During my visits to Paris, I’m typically in my room to bath and rest. My days are easily 10-14 hours long as I strive to absorb the city and culture as much as possible. However, I don’t compromise on security, hospitality, and quality regardless if I sleep for 4 hours or 10 hours. A comfortable and inviting space to rest is more than its weight in gold.

I purposely sought a boutique hotel in a residential area not only to provide aesthetics but also an opportunity to integrate a little more fully into the culture and neighborhood. Hôtel Opéra Liège offered serenity, safety, the liveliness of people during their daily commute to work, and the close proximity to grab an apéritif or meal. During my stay, I didn’t feel like a tourist, I felt like a Parisian enjoying a staycation.

Location, Location, Location

Located in the 9th arrondissement on 9 Rue de Liège, I was pleased to discover this hotel offered many additional perks. Within a 10-minute walk, you will enjoy bistros, a small convenience store for beverages and snacks, and even a cute patisserie. The Galeries Lafayette flagship department store on Boulevard Haussmann is a 20-minute walk away. Directly across the street is Lafayette Maison and Gourmet department store, a foodie’s playground. The proximity to these destinations and multiple metro lines is a priority during my vacation to maximize my time.

The Liège metro line is less than 500 feet away from the hotel. If you are a football fan, the Liege metro line is roughly 20 minutes from Stade de France. Liège metro station is a smaller station however, Gare Saint Lazare, a significantly larger metro station with multiple line connections, is less than a 10-minute walk away from the Hôtel Opéra Liège. Although I have witnessed it a few times, I don’t recommend you roll a large suitcase from Gare Saint Lazare to the hotel. You may damage or lose a wheel on your suitcase!

Gare du Nord and Gare l’Est metro stations are each located roughly 1.5 miles/2.4 kilometers from the Hôtel Opéra Liège. Both are some of the largest metro stations in Paris that connect not only to destinations within the cities but also serve as the primary hub to locations throughout Europe. If arriving from either metro station, you’re only a short taxi ride away from the hotel. A 30-minute walk grants access to most of your transportation needs throughout the city.

My criteria for each city are just as unique as the destination itself. Particularly when visiting Paris, the time flies by and I’m always left wanting more. Proximity to multiple metro stations is a top priority as I seek to maximize my time. Popular destinations such as Champs-Élysées, The Louvre Musée, and the Moulin Rouge are quickly and easily accessible via metro, taxi, or rideshare. Hôtel Opéra Liège is one of the most conveniently & centrally located hotels I’ve enjoyed during my stays in Paris.

Aside from luggage storage and a quick bite from the buffet bar the morning of my departure, I did not take advantage of every amenity offered at Hôtel Opéra Liège. Perhaps that’s an opportunity for the future. What is unique about my travel experience is I rarely visit the same city twice yet along stay at the same hotel. I’m pleased both experiences were great for me and I hope you consider Hôtel Opéra Liège to create beautiful experiences of your own.
